As this day was the Human Right’s Day, the ICRC took an opportunity to honor the women of Rivoningo Women’s Forum (RWF) who were participating in the women’s project doing wonder bags. It was not only about enjoying and having fun, but women were also sharing experiences and empowering each other. Rivoningo Women.s Forum was initiated by members of the Inner City Resource Centre living in the Johannesburg inner city. RWF was officially launched on the 8th March 2011 by women from all different countries. RFW is currently running a women’s wonder bag project aimed at empowering poor and vulnerable women who live in abandoned buildings with no water and electricity. The project teaches women how to serve energy by using a wonder bag to cook.
The project is also aimed at empowering women with the necessary skills to create employment, become economically independent and diversify the means of livelihoods as well as make them marketable for the job market. 20 women have taken part in this project and have complete their wonder bags.
On the 21st March 2015 human rights day Rivoningo Women’s Forum will be honoring the 20 women who participated in the project and also introduce 20 new women who will start in April 2015.
The event will be held at 9TH FLOOR, SASSA BUILDING, NO 1 DE VILLIERS STREET CORNER HARRISON, JOHANNESBURG. TIME 9.30 AM – 15.00.
